Memories of a good holiday ..........

Warning!  Long post and photo heavy!!  But at least you can catch up on your sleep when reading!

I've not posted for such a long time and I really must apologise.  Real life has certainly got in the way.  Firstly I've been so busy at work - 9 colleagues are on long term sick and  I'm working very long hours but that is stopping this week as it's too much.  Also I've not been well myself  with one or two things and just not feeling in the mood to write on my blog or even post on the forums though still have a peek at them!!!

Some of you may remember this bite from a while back?   Well it turned out it wasn't a bite - it was Erythema migrans from Lyme Disease which meant that I had suffered a tick bite and this was one of the reasons I was feeling so ill and my joint problems have been exacerbated with it.  I was tested  and given a two weeks course of horrible strong antibiotics and I have to say thank you for all their help to Lyme  Disease  Action UK.

Anyway enough - hubby and I had a fantastic holiday in the Cairngorms in September. We've been going up there for years and there was one place we had never visited and that was the Highland Folk Museum.  We had driven past it so many times.  It was worth the trip and for miniaturists and miniaturists who love history it was sheer heaven.

Hubby had a go on the quad bikes and loved it and wanted to do more.........

We always manage to catch the red squirrels up there and they really are stunning.

We did quite a lot of mountain biking up there although I was still not confident after falling off and breaking my wrist!!  Nothing like a middle aged wobbly woman on a bike!

One of the trails we did always takes us past the Green Loch which is a lovely walk and a great picnic spot. No-one knows why the water is green but it's possible the colour is from the trees lying on the loch floor or the tale that pixies use to wash their clothes in it! Whatever reason it's a stunning spot.  The beach is quite sandy but there is a viewing point which I headed up to and took a photo of the bench up there and then when I turned round to take a photo as hubby was at the far end, I spotted this padlock and after reading it and sitting looking at the spot it had been placed in, I found myself crying! Very moving.   The last photo was my husband behaving like a 'big kid' cycling through the water!!  He had about five trips through this!!

 The be
The The The
The last photos are of the Cairngorm Reindeer - we decided to do the hill visit to see the reindeer and it was worth every second.   We were up there a couple of hours and got to feed the reindeer!

Well that was my fantastic holiday.  You can wake up now!!!

I haven't completely neglected my miniatures during this time though and Lake View is coming along nicely and I will post photos later!  My kitchen is almost finished in Lake View and I got a new bed and bedside tables (but severely lacking all the finishing touches).  Bought the shower unit from ELF miniatures as well as the kitchen but that's not started yet.  Still you can't rush these jobs.

And for me the best bit is still to come.................hubby and I are running away at Christmas.  We are being a bit selfish this year and part of me does feel a wee bit guilty but we've had Christmas Day and Boxing Day at our house for the last eight years and want a break!  And we both feel it's been a long, hard year so we're going to the Cairngorms and Aviemore!  My hubby isn't one for surprises but when he does it's a big one!!  I cannot wait.  Going to see the Christmas and Santa Parade on Christmas Eve.

Hello New Followers

I've been rather neglectful of my blog so just wanted to say a very belated to new followers and I will try and post soon.  Unfortunately real life has got in the way!

I have made slow progress on Lake View and will post some photographs and have also been building a small extension on Wee Witchy Cottage (very small extension but has taken me a year!!!)

A Winner!

I apologise for the long absence and that this thank you post has taken so long as well.  I had my cast removed and the pain increased - turns out I've got torn tendons too!  I've also been unwell and had a few real life issues (as we all do)!

Anyway enough of that.............I won a giveaway and it's stunning :) The giveaway was on Mona's blog http://www.remmedollhouse.com (and if you haven't seen this blog, make a cuppa and read through it).  l thought the giveaway was just the cabinet and picture but it was everything you see in the photo including the 'ghost chair' plus so much more which I am unable to show you because for some reason blogger is misbehaving and will not allow me to post the photos the right way up (despite numerous attempts and the photos look really strange as if they've been painted badly!!!  The other items and material were beautiful.

I have found a place for everything but will have to wait for the retreat to be built for some of the items. I'm also going to buy another three 'ghost chair's for my dining room.  They are beautiful and a big thank you for pullling my name out.  It's certainly inspired me to do some more work on Lake View. I will try and take some more photos this week and have another go.

Wonderful Gifts

I recently received some lovely gifts and I am sorry it has taken me so long to post about them but my  camera hasn't been working very well so finally got a new one and also with my broken wrist it has been difficult to take photos but managed today.

I wanted to say a big thank you for the lovely gifts - they have all found homes in my mini world. To be honest I can't thank you enough.

The first gifts were from Marlene - a lovely rug which is going to go in the retreat, a crocheted blanket,  light, candle box and a goose and these are all going in Wee Witchy Cottage although the candle box may go in the retreat.  If you haven't seen Marlene's blogs you should pop over and read them.

My next gifts were these two tables which are so different.  They were made by Michaela's husband and they are really nice.   I had admired their table.  One table fits in the dining room in Lake View perfectly (although I now require some ultra modern chairs) and the other table I have decided is going to be used in the bathroom with two sinks (I've placed the buckets on it so you get the idea!!).  Michaela has started a blog now and has some beautiful houses - go and have a look.

Quick update

Just thought I would bore you all with a quick update.  Went to work this morning as usual apart from the fact was in dreadful pain and hubs had to help me get ready including my hair (Vidal Sassoon he is not!!).  Watching the clock go round until my next lot of painkillers when the phone rang and it was A&E asking me to go back down as there was an abnormality in the X-ray.  Went down saw a very nice Consultant and sent for some more X-rays.  This is the result:

Red plaster cast
Yup my wrist is fractured - the plaster cast is on for at least four weeks!!

Nettles & bikes - not a good mix!

This morning was all planned out - bike ride, dry build The Retreat and some other mini work. Went out for the bike ride, weather was mixed with some black clouds appearing.  As we live in a village and I'm still not confident I tend to stick to the pavements as very few pedestrians around.  We always cycle up to our local airport and on the way back I use a footpath which is quite narrow.  On this narrow footpath there was a huge gigantic thistle in the way.   Brain didn't engage and tell me to stop ..... So I tried to wobble round it, fell off the kerb, crashed onto the pavement and landed on my right wrist and a pile of nettles!!

Stinging Nettle

The stinging nettles were so painful, my wrist started to swell and I have a huge graze on my right knee.Anyway had a trip to A & E at the hospital where I work, had an X-ray and the diagnosis is "no obvious fracture, we'll put a wrist splint on, pain relief and if it's still painful in a week, come back".

So sadly no mini work for a few days :(

Sorry for myself :(

This is me today!  I sound like a seal when I cough, hurt my back coughing and spent Saturday in bed not eating or drinking so I should lose weight this week on the plus side.

I'm still going in to work because we've got so much work to do and another colleague is on holiday today.  Got some Nurofen, Paracetamol and cough medicine and of course a giant box of tissues!

Quick Mini Update

For the first time in ages I've spent some time doing mini work.  I purchased four new little properties.  One is a little chalet from Four Little Walls .  The service was excellent.  This project is going to be a writer's retreat at the bottom of the garden.

I've already started painting it using Annie Sloan paint.  I read about this paint on the DHE forum and my goodness it's brilliant.  The chalet was a little too orange for me (but I knew that from the photos and I knew what colours I wanted it)

During make over!

Witchy Cottage Update

I also asked Ted from Dolls House Concepts to do an extension for me for my little Witchy Cottage and I finally started on this - first stage was the brick work and then the plaster. Hopefully later on today I will start the painting.   I bought the original cottage from Ted.

Hubby cut some MDF for me as a base for the Witchy Cottage and this has been primed ready to start work. I will add the extension to the side of the cottage and want to do a small herb garden. Lots to keep me busy over the next few months.

The third and fourth are to follow soon ...................and this is after I promised no more spending due to my job review!!!

Cairngorms and Back

Just had a great week in Aviemore and The Cairngorms.  It was mixed weather with spells of sun and snowy showers.  I love it so much up there and would give anything to live up there.  We went out on our bikes and I cycled in the snow for the first time!  Came back home yesterday but not back at work until Thursday.

My major disappointment was not calling into the Dolls House Emporium at Carlisle as I was hoping to buy The Retreat:(  I've got some great ideas for mini projects whilst up there!

Here's a few photos from the last week (these were taken with my mobile phone as I hoped to post each day and didn't!)

Stunning view from Cairngorms

The snow was higher than our car on the way up to the Cairngorms

We cycled on the snowy trails

How Time Flies & World Book Night

My how time flies - New Years was the last time I posted - sorry blog land!  Real life has got in the way. Work is really busy even more than before, lots more hours all unpaid and more bullying.  On top of that we have a major admin review starting.  Stress is beginning to take its toll at the moment.  I've been wondering about starting up on my own but only at the research stage.

I do have two small mini projects under way but not done enough to reveal yet so they'll have to wait for a wee while.

World Book Night  - this takes place on 23 April 2013 and I've been successful as a 'giver' and my book of choice is No 1 Ladies Detective Agency - I love these books

Happy New Year

Google Images

I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year.   I hope it's a good one for everyone.    I've set myself some 'goals' to achieve this year as I want to be an achiever!  Amongst these are to push  the weight loss (again!!!), finish a couple of mini projects - or at least start them and keep in touch with everyone's blogs more than I did in 2012!
