Progress on Lake View & ready for a mini Christmas!

At last I've done some work on Lake View!   Bought two fireplaces from JS Miniatures but unfortunately these photos do not do them justice - they are stunning!  One is in the lounge and the other is in the dining room.  I'm really surprised at the choice of black because that was not originally what I had planned but I have to say I really like it.  The black console table in the lounge is from Elf miniatures.   The settee, the red chair in the hall and the cushions and footstool were all from The Contemporary Home in Miniature.
The bedroom is not finished by any means.  I was  using a white wire bed on a temporary basis and decided to spray it black until I get a new one and I put the Willow chair in there for the time being!

The office is not complete either - still waiting for a laptop, desk tidy, etc.
And this is the hall - eventually will have a console table or something else instead of the dolls house.

A Mini Christmas Lunch

Last year I got two lovely plated Christmas lunches from Mags as the residents of Lake View had only just moved in and were eating their lunch from a small coffee table.

This year I asked Mags for a Turkey and veggies and they arrived last week and are beautiful.  I just need a dining room table which I should get next week to display the lovely Christmas lunch.

Hello To New Followers!

I'm really sorry I've not been good at blogging  recently and just realised I've got quite a few new followers and I've not said hello - please forgive me and ...................Hello!

Wowee - an award!

When I finally made it into blogland  I was really happy to see that Christine at Hollyhock Cottage had posted as like me she's been pre-occupied with other things.  I was even more surprised to see that she was thanking me and then passing an award to me :)  I am thrilled that Christine would even think of me - there are much better blogs out there and ones who regularly update - thank you very much Christine.

BUT now the hard part - passing the award on - this was not an easy task and it was made even  harder because for some reason I have had major problems again with Blogger but seems to be working on Google Chrome!

I want to share the award with all the blogs I read and follow as you've all been a great inspiration to me but I'm supposed to choose six so here goes :

Normal Blogging Will Resume Soon

Yikes where does the time go?  July was my last post !  All I can say is sorry!  Thank you to some of my followers who emailed me this week asking if everything was okay - I am very grateful to you and you've prompted me in a nice way :)

The truth is real life got in the way!!  Nothing dramatic but work stress.  As some of you know I've been unhappy for a while and it's taken it's toll on me.  I admit I had to go to the Doctors as have been quite tearful and 'down in the dumps' but stayed at work and I've allowed work to overshadow everything else in my life.  We are so busy and constantly bullied to do more that I'm too tired for anything else and everything started to become neglected including work to our real size house.  I was staying back every night and doing lots of unpaid and paid overtime! So real life was put on hold BUT I WANT THAT REAL LIFE BACK AND MY MINIATURE INSPIRATION BACK!!!

I have missed lots on blogland and need to spend some time catching up so all bear with me (there's only so much tea I can drink!).  I haven't been on the Dolls House Emporium Forum which I also enjoy so maybe it's time to get my backside into gear :)

I lost some inspiration for my miniatures and Lake View !!!! WHAT - how did that happen?? I even contemplated selling Lake View ! OMG!   I am not sure I like what we did to the fireplaces in Lake View but can't seem to find a solution.
Holiday:   I bought a new bike which I absolutely love just before Mr C & I went on holiday and we had a fantastic time.    We cycled almost everywhere (never done that before) and some of the views were stunning.   Went back to work for two days (still feeling the wonderful after effects of the holiday) and then last Tuesday got the 'orrible flu bug and spent two days in bed but on the mend now - hacking cough and no voice (Mr C likes that bit) so back to work tomorrow :(

And just to bore you even more some holiday snaps:

Lake View's new name & name plaque

At last Lake View has a name 'Obair-na-Ghaol' which translated means Labour of Love.  I heard the name on a TV programme and loved it.

I then contacted Julie Lawton to ask if she could make me a house sign and it is beautiful.  The colours sum up Scotland very well.  For the time being I've put it on the door frame but think it will probably stay there.

From Google Images
I had to have some dental work done last Friday and opted for sedation, because I am terrified of the dentist!  The dentist told me that removing one particular tooth was going to be difficult.  A few hours later woke to incredible pain which didn't go away.  Saw an emergency Doctor on Sunday morning who prescribed a cocktail of pain relief which did work but unfortunately brought me out in a dreadful red itchy, burning rash! Next morning went to my doctors but saw a locum who must have retired about 40 years ago!!  Got anti-histamines and went off to work but the pain got worse and I came home.

Had no sleep and then off to the Doctors again the next morning and saw my own GP who gave me steroids for 5 days!   Then off to my Dentist (still shaking because I hate going!) where they treated me immediately for 'dry socket' and put me on strong antibiotics.

I had put a post up on one of the miniature forums and thankfully a member on there is a dental nurse who advised me to go back to the dentist and told me she thought I might have dry socket and I am very grateful to her - she was spot on :)

Today, I am still in a lot of pain and feel quite yucky but hopefully on the mend although last night was dreadful and I had to resort to some strong painkillers.   I am getting sick of eating soups, mashed potato, scrambled eggs and yoghurt.  BUT today I actually feel like doing some mini work and might try and post up later some additions/alterations to Lake View :)

Winnie the Witch!

Went to York Dolls House Fair yesterday 10 June 2012.  It was a last minute decision and we didn't get there until after 12.

Went to look for items for Lake View and did get one or two items namely some brick cladding and a lovely vase but I spotted this little witch and as the saying goes 'had to have her'.   I did walk round the fair saying to myself if she's still there when I walk back round, she's mine!  Anyway she's mine and I've called her Winnie (short for Winifred) after Bette Midler's character in the film Hocus Pocus.

I've placed one of the books in her hand that Christine made me and at her feet is the basket of mushrooms that Christine also made.  When I saw 'Winnie' I was taken with the colours of her clothes as they reminded me of the lovely rug that Marlene made (which you can just about see in the photo).

New bike - not mini but small!!

Hubs and I bought bikes a few weeks ago - 30 years since we've been on bikes!!!!  I had to buy a bike with a very small frame as I'm only just 5' tall.  One shop said that I would have to look at children's bikes!  Anyway we've been doing a circuit from our house of approximately 4.5 miles (most of it flat). and decided the time had come to 'cycle out' into the brave new world and first stop was Sutton Bank.  We asked for an easy route but I think the 'very pleasant lady' behind the counter had a sadistic streak!   We did 6.75 miles and I fell off (haven't got used to putting my feet down when stopping!!).

The first photo is some of the tractor tracks at Sutton Bank which were really difficult to ride over and the second photo is the spot I fell off at! It may look flat but it was on a slope and I rolled down someway! I'm pretty sure that a satellite in space captured it and I'll be on You Tube at some point!

Yesterday we went off the Kielder thinking it would be fairly quiet even though it's a bank holiday, but no it was like Piccaddily Circus.   We set off on what I thought was one of the easier routes but hubs had mis-read it and it was a 'wee bit tougher'.  I made a complete fool of myself as couldn't even get up the slope from the car park :)   We made it to almost 3.5 miles and decided to call it a day and cycle back.  There were children doing better than us but at one point even seasoned cyclists were struggling up the hill so that made us feel much better:)  Even on the wayback it was uphill! Just as we were putting the bikes back on the rack the heavens opened including hailstones.

The first photo is my lovely bike after the ride and the next one is the rain from the car !

New Sofa for Lake View

I couldn't make it to Miniatura but I spotted this sofa on The Contemporary Home in Minature's facebook page!!!!  I just love shopping from my armchair :)  Anyway I contacted Leanne and she gave me the measurements for the sofa which is in two pieces and I ordered it.  It arrived a couple of days later but we were on holiday so I knew I had something lovely to come back to.  Anyway I love it - it fits perfectly but true to form the dog jumped straight on it :)  As you can see the rest of Lake View is making very slow progress!

Spring Gardening Giveaway

It's been such a lovely few days here, warm and sunny (which is unusual for this time of the year) and I have been out in the garden for a while this afternoon, watching Mr C cut the grass whilst I had a glass of wine (that's a form of gardening isn't it?) so thought I would do a gardening themed giveaway to say thanks to everyone who follows my blog and also takes the time to leave such nice comments - they are really appreciated :)

Included is a gardening fork, a tortoise called Candy and one of Pascale Garnier's kits - red Iceland Poppies.  To be in with a chance all you have to be is a follower of my blog and leave a comment on this post.  I will make the draw on Friday 13 April 2012 (lucky for someone!)

Quirky Items for Lake View

Last September I purchased a wee Highland Cow for Lake View and last week bought one of the Eames elephant stools from Elf Miniatures!   I wanted to include items that would show my Scottish side and my love of Elephants (I also spent time in Africa for a few years) and I wanted items that were 'quirky or different'.  They are not to everyones taste and I'm sure that Mr C thinks I've lost the plot :)  Anyway here's some photos:

Prize Winner!

I won a prize last year at the York Miniature Show in June 2011 - it was run by Warners Group Publications Dolls House & Miniature Scene magazine. I was due to collect it at the November show but couldn't make it.

Yesterday there was a knock on my door and one of my neighbour's was standing there with a parcel for me.  Her mum took the parcel in for me at the beginning of December and whilst her family were there trying to sort things out they found it along with some more parcels for other neighbours.

This was inside and it's delightful:

Poor me!

This is me this morning :(  Mr C is delighted as I've lost my voice!!!  I started with a 'bit of a' sore throat last night and this morning it's so painful I can barely swallow (hopefully might help the weightloss this week).

Mini Flowers

Finally got round to doing some miniature work.  My right wrist and hand are still very painful but I managed :)  Last year at the York Miniature show I bought some Echinacea flowers from Ladies Mile Miniatures.  They have turned out quite well but I do need a new vase and they were difficult to photograph.

This week I also purchased some Forsythia and Pussy Willow from Georgie at The Miniature Garden - excellent service from Georgie.   These were lovely to do and I will certainly be buying some more.  Again I need a new vase and they were difficult to photograph.  All the flowers are going to go in Lake View and as the season changes so will my vases with flowers.

A lovely gift !

I received a lovely gift the other day from Marlene at Poppy Patchwork - the most delightlful mini rug.   It has cheered me up no end.  The rug is gorgeous.  Thank you Marlene :)

I've put the rug into Wee Witchy Cottage and really like it and think it looks so much nicer than the previous rug I had down.  It shows off Christine's lovely mushrooms and book much better I think.    If you haven't seen Marlene's blog please have a look and also have a quick peek at her blog about her lovely dolls house Somerset House

Pulling my socks up!!!

Haven't been around for a while - not been myself !!  At my age I have allowed too much to get in the way and it stops here and now!   I have lovely friends and family (although I don't live near them) and don't see a great deal of them and a great husband so what am I moaning about!  Well work for a starter - we are all completely maxed out at work and on Thursday four of us had the pleasure of meeting our new line manager - 'ells bells - she managed to reduce four middle-aged women to tears! The best part of it is she has never done our job and has no idea what is involved!

Anyway woke up this morning at 4.30 am and sat looking at Lake View and then reading all the blogs, etc - miniatures have always put me in a better frame of mind and I found some lovely new furniture on Elf Miniatures website so ideas are starting to form which was beginning to worry me - no inspiration :)

I have 6 weeks to my holiday and I am so looking forward to it but would like to lose some weight which has ground to a halt.  This morning I read some more weightwatcher blogs and feel inspired again.  Have increased my points on Weightwatchers as I think the new amount was too low and have already cooked some meals to go in the freezer for next week.

I wanted to apologise to some of you out there who I haven't emailed yet (you know who you are) but I promise I will - I didn't want to do it with a bad mindset :)

Mini victory!!

Ha!  Tried to link in my title with my love of miniatures and a small victory on the scales this morning - I managed to lose 3lbs this week :)  Might have been more but we had a takeaway last night which we shouldn't have done but it was really nice.  I am pleased that I managed to lose though - 'onwards and downwards' !

Test post from mobile phone!

I am testing posting to my blog from my phone which I still love and keep finding new things to do with it:-)  and trying to post a photo of lake view taken at Christmas time with my phone!
