As the song goes - 'Paper Roses'

I have long admired the Bonnie Lavish flower kits that Linda Carswell of Une Petite Folie had made and finally ordered some pink roses. I ordered them from Templewood Miniatures and their service is first class.

Anyway I have made my first one and I know I can improve but I am quite pleased with the result and will be ordering some more. I really enjoyed spending some quiet time yesterday making this whilst my fake tan was 'baking' ready for a 40th birthday party last night!!

Here are some photographs showing the kit and finished rose.

Share & Share Alike

Well what a week this has been in our household! First Hubs took ill very late Sunday night and had to phone in ill Monday and Tuesday (he never takes time off work) but he was hit with some kind of stomach bug (I will spare you the details!). I started to feel really ill on Tuesday whilst at work and had to come home at about 2.30 pm ! I ended up collapsed on the bathroom floor and I can certainly say the floor is not comfy! I have been off work since and still feel 'yucky'.

I have managed to eat some toast and honey today but feel really weak and dizzy but now beginning to think it's because I haven't eaten since Tuesday morning at 6.30 am!!!

We were supposed to be going out tonight as a friend is over for a few days from Ireland but we will have to give it a miss although hubs may pop down tonight for an hour!

And you know the most annoying thing ???? You get an extra day or two off work and you're too ill to do anything!

Update on weightloss & revamping a mini house!

Well finally got round to blogging again.............!!

Started Weightwatchers again with a vengeance and have managed to lose 7.5 lbs in two weeks (although this week sadly stayed the same but that might not have been helped by the fact that I went for a drink (or three) after work on Thursday night as I'd had the week from 'ell). Didn't like the new WW plan at first but loving it now - free fruit - yippeee!! Have been out walking and using my rebounder. Some of you might remember that I had stupidly said I would love to do the Great North Run - well I now have 8 months left!!!!

I have not yet started on Lake View as I am just waiting to hear how secure my job is as we are under threat in the NHS and also having a work review carried out. However, I am back to working on Holly House and thanks to you guys I decided to revamp the dolls house for my dolls house! I had bought this years ago but was never keen on the colour so yesterday set to. It's not quite finished but thought I would be post up some photos for you! My skills still leave a lot to be desired but I have to say I do like the revamp myself!

Blog Award!!!!

Well, I was presented with a blog award - gobsmacked I am!!!! It's from Marlene and I just cannot believe it. Thank you so much Marlene. I am supposed to pass this on but to be honest I love all the blogs and cannot choose so it's dedicated to everyone!!

I think I am also supposed to tell you seven things about myself that you may not know, so here goes:

  • Although I've been married for almost 26 years, we've been together for 32 years!

  • My all time favourite film is White Christmas

  • I have always wanted to learn fencing (not the wooden fences around gardens but Errol Flynn style!)

  • I love Professor Brian Cox and would love to learn about the solar system from him!!!!!

  • I was born in Scotland and brought up in West Africa for 10 years!

  • I would love to live in a small cottage in the Highlands

  • I would love to write one very good crime thriller!!!

Hello - new followers!

I have just realised that I have two new followers! I am so sorry if you have been there for a while and I've not noticed. Saying hello to Kat the Hat Lady who we all know - she makes the most amazing hats - I know I have quite a few!!! Also saying hi to Margaret who's blog is worth a look if you haven't already been there - another miniaturist who makes beautiful minis.

'Twas the month after Christmas' - diet poem!!!!

I was sent the following poem via email today at work and it made me laugh. I have printed a copy out and stuck it in the kitchen!!!!

'Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd tasted
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).
I'd remembered the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,

The wine and the rum balls,
The bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never say,
"No thank you, please."

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt.
I said to myself, as I only can
"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"

So--away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore,
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet

Family Party & The Dreaded Scales

Yesterday we decided at the last minute to drive up to Glasgow for a family party! We are mad as hatters. I can recommend doing your make up and nails before you leave the house and not trying to do it in the car on a bumpy A74!!! Hubs was certainly not impressed when I used the hairspray! We also drove home last night instead of staying with family members! Partly becasue we have a lot to do today. On the way up we stopped at Dolls House Emporium in Carlisle (it's part of a garden centre - nice walk round and toilet stop!). They had Bag End from Lord of the Rings on display. This was made by Maddie Chambers. It was lovely to see and worth a trip if you get the chance.

The party was soooo good. I love going to my aunts house - it is so relaxing and such a laugh. It's good to see everyone. As I write this, one cousin will have arrived back in France this morning where she lives. Managed to speak to another cousin who couldn't make the party. I am hoping to do the Great North Run with him this year and hubs too!!!! Must be mad with my joint problems! The first thing he asked me was about my training! Ha, what training????

This now brings me to the dreaded weigh in much weight did I put on over Christmas?????? So back on the diet - no more takeaways, chocolates, nuts, crisps, Baileys....oh I could go on! So once the decorations are down today it's back to reading all about the new Weightwatchers diet and sticking to it!
I am also going to bring Lake View back down and start work on it. I also want to start on the basement in Holly House. I would like an indoor swimming pool!!!! Well I will never have one in real life so why not??!!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to everyone. Hope it's a good year. Wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone in blogland - mini blogs, dieting blogs and photographic blogs - you have all been an inspiration to me this year and I know you will continue to do so. You have all helped me through some difficult times this year. Thank you and here's to a great 2011. (Photo from BBC News website)
