Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Thought I would post some photos that I took whilst out for a walk the other day near where we live. It was a beautiful day even though the sun wasn't shining.

New Oven !

Well just got back from shopping trip for an oven. Think one store was about to call security on our 5th trip back into the store!!! It's funny you don't see a salesperson for hours and then keep bumping into the same one! Anyway bought oven and hopefully delivered on Thursday. Hope it's okay.

Aaaarrrgggghhhh - no oven!

Just typical - put the oven on last night and went upstairs to tidy up. Came down thinking dinner would be almost ready to find................yup you guessed it ..............oven not working!!! Grill works but not the oven! Had to try and heat the dinner up in the microwave as it had gone cold and then grill the top to brown it!!!! Not happy this morning! Hate shopping at the best of times and now we have to go out, tackle the sales and the heavy rain - oh joy!!!!
I probably burnt the oven out on Christmas day!

Merry Christmas Everyone

Merry Christmas Everyone - hope you all have a lovely Christmas.

Thought I would post my favourite Christmas poem xx

Twas the Night before Christmas
Poem by Clement Moore

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Lunar eclipse

Went out this morning to see the lunar eclipse. It was a bit of a mad dash as should have been getting ready for work, so guess what - yup I was late for work!!. I had my pyjamas on under big coat, boots, hat, scarf - not a good look!!!! According to the news 'The lunar ecclipse was coinciding with the winter solstice (shortest day). Apparently NASA reports that the last time these astronomical events took place together was 21 Dec 1638, and it won't happen again until at least 2094!!!! Not only was I dressed like a mad woman I also had the wrong lens on the camera and couldn't find the tripod, wrong settings..... so photos not good, but it was an amazing sight (the eclipse not me!)

Holly House decorated for Christmas (well - almost!)

Here are some more photos of Holly House! Still got lots to do on this house but will get there one day! The first one shows the lounge with my new candles on the fireplace (after Christmas these will go into the witchy room in the attic). I painted all the walls cream in the house and have to say when you see it in photographs it's pretty bland so might have to have a re-think!

Next is the dining room and I have just noticed that the star on top of the tree is missing and the bottle of wine on the table has fallen (I moved the house earlier on so must have knocked these down). The little dolls house was purchased in a shop in Edinburgh years ago but I fancy having a go at painting it now -although as some you know painting is not one of my skilled areas :-)

Next is a close up of Mr & Mrs Gingerbread!! Also shows the gingerbread house

Lastly but certainly not least is a close up of the cauldron full of soup, bowls of soup and one of the jars of pumpkin soup.

Quick update

Haven't posted for a while - work is hectic, getting ready for Christmas is hectic and not been too well, but on the mend now I think. My Doctor has been really good I have to say. The diet has gone a bit haywire and struggling with the new Weightwatchers plan but I am sure I will get there!!!

I just hope I'm ready for Christmas - still got cards to write and pressies to wrap and I have decided I am going to try a bit of baking - must be mad!!!! If it works I will take photos!

Hubs and I also had some worrying news about our jobs. One of hubs' colleagues was made redundant on Tuesday night and it was a bit of a shock but hubs has been told that his job should be okay - but we'll wait and see! Obviously it means more work for him! We have decided to really try and tighten our belts even more now. My job is under threat as the Hospital has to save money. We have to undergo a work review and also attend cost cutting workshops & there's a rumour that we will have to reapply for our jobs and if not successful we will be dropped two bands!! So far there is no mention of cutbacks on the huge number of managers that have sprung up in the last 3 years!

I decided to write this down because I firmy believe that once you've written something down you get it off your chest so by doing this I might sleep tonight!!

Kitchen in Holly House

Here's a photo of my kitchen in Holly House. Still got bits to do but I do like it now it since its little revamp.

You will see in the photo the cauldron, bowls of pumpkin soup and jars of pumpkin soup that I bought from Kat the Hat Lady. They should be in my witchy room but I just love them in here! They were beautifully presented on a late tile - unfortunately butter fingers here dropped it!! You can also probably just make out a tray with two gingerbread men and my gingerbread house - I have had these two items for years now and cannot remember where they came from. I have now started logging everything I buy.

This was taken with my new little camera and I am going to try and take some more photos of my house - still haven't read the manual!

York Doll House Show Part Deux

Well I have finally got round to taking some photos of the goodies that I bought at York last week - feels like it was ages ago - must have something to do with the weather!!! I am sorry about the photos but we have not had any sun today and it's really dark and grey - I am also trying out a new camera which was only purchased yesterday evening so had no chance to read the manual!!!!!

The first one shows the wonderful chair I bought from ELF miniatures (this will go into Lake View when I finally start on it!) and also shows the hour glass, broom, hat and pumpkin, candles (one of which glows in the dark) and the working hour glass all of which I bought from Mags-nificent Miniatures.
The next photo shows one of the blanket boxes (I bought two) to use as bedside tables - I wanted something different. The light came from ELF miniatures which I just loved and I needed a slightly bigger table for it so hence the blanket style box.
